Kevin Garnett

A sad sad day for me. My favorite NBA player has been traded from the Timberwolves to the Celtics.  I saw the press conference on wcco.com and I must say, it sounds like the T-Wolves didn’t have KG in their plans anymore.  I think I’ll have to be a Celtics fan now.  Go KG!!

Home

Dad has been home for a couple days.  Estes was so excited to see him right away she jumped all over him.  Not a good idea after the procedure he had.  after she calmed down, she seemed to know that there was a patient in the house.  She’s been pretty since that inital greeting.  It’s been good to have him home.  That week we were going to the hospital everyday seemed to fly by.  I didn’t miss a beat at work.  Usually when I take a long time off of work, I forget a little of this or a little of that… but I think with all the stress of last week, I wasn’t able to forget anything… it’s like the week didn’t happen.  Anyway, dad is on the long road to recovery now.  yay!

Big Heart

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

After my dad’s surgery today (Monday), the resident came to talk to us to fill us in on how things went.  He said that they had to take a lot of a vein in his leg (SOP) to make it around his big heart.  That has really stuck with me for the rest of the day.  Maybe his heart is physically bigger… but ’big heart’ does not even begin to describe what he means to his family and friends.  Love You Always Dad!

Heart

It is 5:11 in the morning and everyone in the house is getting ready to take my dad to St. Mary’s for his bypass surgery.  There is a nervous feeling in the air.  I think it will be a long day but all will be better by this evening.

 Hard to express in words…

Potter

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

I took Erica to Walmart at midnight to get a copy of the new Harry Potter book.  I was surprised to see so many people there to get the book.  People of all ages, shapes, and sizes.  Kinda neat how a book can bring all sorts together.  I’m only on page 200 of the fifth book so I have some time before I need the seventh book.  No spoilers please!!!

Hold on to your Golf Ballz

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

(I got this in an email… thought I’d pass it along to anyone that comes across this blog…)

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 glasses of wine…

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.  When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full.  They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.  He shook the jar lightly.  The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.  He then asked the students again if the jar was full.  They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.  Of course, the sand filled up everything else He asked once more if the jar was full.  The students responded with an unanimous “yes.” The professor then produced two glasses of wine from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand.  The students laughed.

“Now,” said the professor, as the laughter subsided, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.  The golf balls are the important things; your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions; things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.”

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car.  The sand is everything else; the small stuff.

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued, “there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.  The same goes for life.  If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.”

“Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.  Play with your children.  Take time to get medical checkups.  Take your partner out to dinner.  Play another 18.  Do one more run down the ski slope.  There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.  Take care of the golf balls first; the things that really matter.  Set your priorities.  The rest is just sand.”

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the wine represented.

The professor smiled. “I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s always room for a couple of glasses of wine with a friend.”

What a day…

Weekend Work

Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

This last weekend I was out in the heat cutting down trees.  It has to get done soon and unfortunately it was some of the hottest days of the year.  Today is Tuesday and I’m still feeling some of the effects of the sun and/or the heat.  I’ve had a sore throat since Sunday evening, I think the sun did that too.
