Texas Trip

Saturday, April 23rd, 2005

As you know, Brian and I were heading down to Texas Friday morning (15th)… when I got off of work Thursday night we both decided that sleeping would be next to impossible while looking forward to making the trip to Texas to see Mike. Brian and I ended up leaving thursday night and not getting to Houston TX until 5:00pm Friday the 15th. UGH!! What a drive!! We were soooo tired by the time we hit the rush hour in houston… but once we got to Mike’s place we got a 2nd… er 3rd… er 4th… er 5th wind. We got everything unloaded (lots of computer equipment) and settled in.

Mike’s apartment worked well for three guys to get some gaming on… We had a nice setup worked out… plenty of room for everyone. We had a few problems getting Mike’s new PC running… but once we got that under control, We filled our days with hanging out and a lot of gaming.

I’m pretty certain Mike is really liking his PC. It should be able to handle anything mike can throw at it for quite some time.

Mike has a dog named Spot… what an awesome lil fella. I believe he is a Jack Russel Terrier (sp?). I had a great time playing with Spot… we wore eachother out quite a bit I think. That lil bugger would wake us up each morning by licking our faces/ears. I think Mike has him trained to do that… don’t ya Mike? Since spot is still a pup, when I got home Estes seemed HUGE!! It blew my mind!

I DO NOT know how people live in big cities. The congestion of Houston is simply put… overwhelming. Even here in Rochester it can be a bit of a pain in the kester (for me)… and Houston is 100x worse. ARG! Everyone seems to be in such a hurry… although I probably would be too if it took an hour and a half to get to work. cripes! I like my 10 minute comute to Byron MN.

The trip home went pretty good… Brian and I lost a lot of time in Dallas’ rush hour traffic… what are ya gonna do ehh? It was a quiet ride home… I think Brian and I were both a lil burnt out. hehe

Thanks to Mike’s dad for the Maps and whatnot… however Brian brought along his dad’s GPS unit… that thing is incredible. We took Brian’s Saturn Vue on the trip… it is a nice ride… It may be a vehicle I’d consider getting in the future. He has it equiped with XM Radio which was very nice for the long road trip. Thanks Brian!

Overall the trip was great!! Eventhough we didn’t get to any sites persay, I saw the site I needed to… my good friend Mike. It was some good time off of work… got some relaxing done… not much more I could have asked for. Thanks Mike!

Linux

Mikes computer is together and ready for transport. I tricked him last night, telling him that we had to put Linux on there instead of a Windows OS. He wasn’t liking that idea.

Time for a haircut and get to packing for the trip. Yeeeeha!

Been Awhile

Wednesday, April 13th, 2005

Wow it’s been too long. What’s been going on…

It never easy to bury someone, especially a classmate. Cole Butler died March 5th. A lot of other classmates came into town for the wake and funeral. Sad times. It was nice to see some friends I haven’t seen in a while. However, I wish it had been under better circumstances.

Jim and his brothers took me along to New York City in a trip Jim had won through US Cellular (the company he works for). The night before our flight was St Patrick’s Day and the Luck boys (Jim and Ed) wanted to go out for a few beers. We decided to check out an Irish Bar (the name escapes me at the moment) that we had heard will be a rockin spot. I’ve never seen a tent full of so many people and everyone was drinking. Jim paid for my $20 cover charge and we then proceeded to Jim and Ed a lil tipsy… I kept making them drink. HAHA. The next day we had a shaky start to the trip due to a wrong turn in route to the airport in Des Moines IA. We ended up missing our flight and having to make other arrangements to get to NYC. We got pretty lucky and were only an hour or so late getting to NYC. We stayed in a nice hotel right next to Grand Central Station… so we were right in the thick of things. NYC is a great place to visit, but I don’t see myself living there… EVER. Some sights we saw (in no particular order): Empire State Building (at night), Hard Rock Cafe, Time Square, Central Park, The Metropolitan Art Museum, Ground Zero, Wall Street, New York Stock Exchange, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, U.N. Building, SOHO neighborhood, Little Italy, Chinatown, and I’m sure i’m missing some. Through the trip Jim had won, he got 4 tickets to see the Lion King production. It was awesome!! If you have a chance, see it. I had my first Star Bucks coffee in NYC… mmmm that’s good stuff. We had more flight problems getting back to Des Moines due to delays and what not… not a trip trip for flying, but we did make ok. Jim’s brother Matt got stop all the time by security where ever we went… it was a running joke for the trip as was Jim and his ladies. HAHA I should have pictures up from the trip at some point.

Thanks so much for the trip Jim, it was incredible!!

I’ve had little time for gaming other than Star Wars Galaxies. If i’m not working, sleeping, or hanging out with friends, chances are I’ll be playing that game. Just yesterday the Rebels took Naboo from the Imperials. That might not mean much to many people that read this, but it’s a big deal! woohoo.

We have been getting out to the farm a few times in the last few weeks to do some work around there. It can be hard work, but it’s nice to get outside every once in a while after the winter months.

Brian and I are preparing for a trip to visit Mike in Katy TX… just outside of Houston TX. We’ll be getting packed up and will be leaving here by Friday. We are also putting together a computer for Mike… It’s gonna scream!!

I’ll try to keep things more updated. hehe
