5 Years

Monday, August 1st, 2005

Shortly after I got to work today, my supervisor was in to see me. This August is my 5 year anniversary with Schmidt. *claps*

It seems like just yesterday I shaved my goatee for my first interview at Schmidt. I had applied to be a pressroom helper on a 12hr shift. At the time I thought a 12hr shift (work three 12hour days then off for four days) would be excellent for me to visit my friends that were in colleges within a few hours drive from Rochester. Curt had seen some of my manufacturing experiences and asked if I would be interested in a Production Control Coordinator position. Not really knowing what the heck that involved, I decided to give it a shot.

Being new to the printing industry, it took some time to get trained in, learn the printing lingo, and remember everyone’s name, but soon settled into my 2nd shift position. I remember alot people telling me that I’d only make it a few months in PCT (Production Control Team) and be driven to start drinking. Looking back on the last 5 years, I know exactly what they are talking about… lots of stress and pressure!! I’m proud to say that after 5 years, I’m still in PCT and haven’t had a drink.

Thanks to Schmidt for the 5 years and I hope there are more to come!

Motorcycles

Monday, August 1st, 2005

My friend Brian got a motorcycle on Saturday. Nice little machine there. It’s a 1992 NightHawk. He got it polished up nice Saturday night.

I’m still a bit scared of motorcycles. I’ll probably never get on one.

Weird timing… right behind my house… … (out of today’s Post-Bulletin) A 22-year-old Rochester man died early Sunday after a motorcycle accident on West Circle Drive.

Police said John C. Lowery IV was driving northbound on West Circle Drive at 2:09 a.m., approaching the intersection with Third Street Northwest, when a motorcycle driven by 19-year-old Joseph Robert Praski of Rochester changed lanes in front of him.

Police said Lowery’s motorcycle rear-ended Praski’s, causing both vehicles to topple. Praski was up and walking around when officers arrived. Lowery was taken to Saint Marys Hospital, where he died.

Lowery was a 2001 graduate of John Marshall High School. He was employed at Gauthier Industries.

Capt. Brian Winters said neither rider was wearing a helmet.

I was working on my brother’s computer at the time… I’m surprised neither Estes or I heard the happenings.
